20 Years Of Jane Iredale

This year the Doyenne of natural beauty Jane Iredale celebrates the 20th anniversary of her make-up line.

The first natural make-up company to become an international brand, Jane Iredale started life in 1994. A Casting Director by trade, Jane worked with many actresses and models struggling with skin sensitivities and disorders as a result of the make-up they wore and the physiological effects that these reactions were having on them and wanted to help. With no real business plan, Jane found a product formulator and a chemist to help her develop her ideas and Jane Iredale the brand was born.

Coining the phrase The Skin Care Make-up, Jane Iredale was the first line of make-up that could actually benefit the skin. Created without the use of fillers such as talc; petroleum and other minerals oils; synthetic preservatives; parabens; fragrances and FD&C dyes, the entire collection has been designed to work with the skin to enhance it's health.

With an expansive range of products for a multiple of skin types and tones, plus an array of tools and even a specialist vegan male range (I have yet to try this), Jane Iredale has it all sewn up when it comes to clean make-up. A large proportion of the range is vegan friendly and a number of products are also suitable for those with Gluten intolerances; the brand is recognised as cruelty free by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and carries the Leaping Bunny logo with pride.

To secure their eco credentials and almost as a celebration of their anniversary, the company move into a Gold LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certified building this year; In addition to this, the famed Hydration Sprays have been given ECOCERT accreditation.

Philanthropy has been at the heart of the company for many years. Having supported various charities from animal rights to the arts, perhaps most notably is their support for Living Beyond Breast Cancer, a charity whom offers support and information to patients, carers and friends; Jane Iredale have donated in excess of $230,000 (over £136,000) during their five year partnership!

The lack of business plan appears to have had very little negative impact on business; in two decades Jane Iredale has gone from selling just five shades of loose mineral powder to over 400 products in 43 countries around the world - you can't get much better than that!

So lets raise a glass... Congratulations Jane - Here's to another twenty years!
